Do I have to attend Chatfield senior High School to play for the team?

No. The Chatfield Water Polo Club is open to eligible high school students in the surrounding area and is actually not a Chatfield sport or club. Under Colorado High School Water Polo Association (CHSWPA) guidelines, athletes typically play for the club team that is closest to their home address. If Chatfield is the closest CHSWPA club team to your residence, you may be eligible to join our team.

Do I need previous water polo experience?

No. Previous water polo experience is not required. Our coaches will teach players the fundamentals of the sport, including passing, shooting, defensive skills, positions, rules, and game strategy.

What are the swimming requirements?

Players should be comfortable swimming in deep water and able to tread water continuously for at least 15 minutes. Water polo is played without touching the bottom of the pool, so a strong swimming foundation is important for player safety and success.

Do I need to be a competitive swimmer?

No. Competitive swimming experience is helpful but not required. Athletes with different backgrounds are encouraged to join. Water polo skills, techniques, and conditioning will be developed throughout the season.

Is the team co-ed?

Yes. The Chatfield Water Polo Club is a co-ed team open to high school students who want to learn, compete, and be part of a team environment.

What grade levels can participate?

The team is open to eligible high school students. Please contact us for specific eligibility requirements based on grade level and CHSWPA guidelines.

When is the season?

The water polo season runs during the fall season, August through October. Practices, games, and team activities can be found on the Schedule tab.

Where are practices and games held?

Practices in August are at the Ken Caryl Community Center pool and practices in September and October are at Carmody Rec Center. Games are on Saturdays at Arvada Aquatic Center, VMAC, Carmody Rec Center, Arapahoe High School and the Air Force Academy.

What equipment do players need?

Players will need a water polo suit and goggles (optional for warm up only). 

How much does it cost to play?

Paid to the team: $435

• CHSWPA League Fee $185 (covers pool rental for game days, referee fees, and insurance)

• Team Fees $250 (covers pool rental for practices, coach fees, team shirt and end of season celebration)

Purchased by the player:

• USA Water Polo Bronze Level Membership $65 (required prior to being able to practice with the team)

• Team apparel (anything other than the team shirt, which is included in team fees)

• Black Water Polo Suit

• Goggles (optional for warm up only)

Why should I try water polo?

Water polo is a challenging and rewarding team sport that builds swimming ability, endurance, confidence, communication, and leadership skills. It is a great opportunity to try something new while becoming part of a supportive team community.
